State Government allows the logging of 10,000 hectares of native forest every year
Despite widespread belief that logging has now stopped in WA, 10,000 ha of our unique and irreplaceable native forests are logged every year.
When you add to this amount what is also cleared for mining, housing, powerlines, water infrastructure, roading and agriculture, a very bleak picture emerges for our environment.
We are lucky enough to live in the only globally recognised terrestrial biodiversity hotspot in Australia. Why are we not protecting every single remaining hectare of it and instead sanctioning its destruction?
The taxpayers of Western Australia are losing a precious community asset for a loss. Without the sandlewood industry, the Forest Products Commission would suffer huge losses every year they continue to log our forests.
